IA Concentration Program

This page lays out suggested course work for undergraduate and graduate students willing to pursue Information Assurance concentration program offered by ISIS.

Concentration on IA at Undergraduate Level:

Undergraduates in Computer Science, Information Management and Computer Engineering who wish to pursue an IA concentration program are advised to follow course sequence outlined below.

  1. Required courses:
    • HU 347 Ethics and technology
    • EE 136 Communication Networks OR EL 536 Principles of Communication Networks
    • CS 684 Network Protocols I OR EL 537 Protocols and LANs
    • CS 392 Computer Security
    • CS 393 Network Security


  2. Electives:
    • CS 909 Biometric Identification
    • MG 652 Telecommunication Regulation Policy & Law
    • CS 685 Network Protocols II
    • CS 904 Financial Cryptography
    • CS 618 Fault-Tolerant Computer Application
    • CS 681 Information, Privacy and Security

    It should be noted that the 600 and 900 level courses listed above allow undergraduates to register and typically consist of a mix of graduate and undergraduate students.
Concentration on IA at Graduate Level:

Masters students in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or in Telecommunications can get a concentration in IA by following the course sequence outlined below.

  1. Required courses:
    • EL 536 Principles of Communication Networks
    • EL 537 Protocols and LANs or CS 684 Network Protocols I
    • CS 681 Information, Privacy, and Security
    • CS 682 Network Management and Security
    • CS 904 Financial Cryptography


  2. Electives:
    • CS 909 Biometric Identification
    • MG 652 Telecommunication Regulation, Policy & Law
    • CS 685 Network Protocols II
    • CS 618 Fault-Tolerant Computer Application

Project Requirements:

Students pursuing this program are encouraged to complete at least one semester long project related to IA. Undergrads can complete a senior project in IA related topic. Graduate students can use a technical or a free elective to complete this project. (E.g: Students in MS telecommunications do a project in their final semester and a student wishing to focus in IA can do a project in an IA related topic.)
