 | Mike Istomin | | I am a student working towards Masters Degree in Computer Engineering at Polytechnic University. I also received my B.S. degree in the same major from Poly in June 2006. My family moved to the U.S. just in time for me to enter high school, so most of my upper portion of education was received here.
Before arriving in the U.S., my family and I lived in Kirov, Russia., though I also spent a number of years in a small town near Vitebsk, Belarus beforehand.
My first experience with computers was at early age when I was introduced to ZX Spectrum, a number of x86 architecture iterations followed shortly thereafter. It was always fascinating for me to watch our local computer wiz going at our machine, trying to upgrade it or fix one problem or another (sometimes to the point of taking a solder to it). This was what originally sparked my interest into the inner working of computers and similar electronics. As I went through my educational career, I also came to acquire an interest in security as a multifaceted subject applicable to virtually any field.
As for general interests I enjoy reading fiction (mostly sci-fi /fantasy, though I do enjoy other genres on occasion). Also, I enjoy music (though nothing too loud or out of tune), it makes a convenient substitute for earplugs. Additionally, I like learning new things, how to use them and what makes them tick, so to speak.
